Craft Room Update

A few months ago I started painting my craft room - and then left it half done. I lost my motivation. I got it back! And, I'm redoing it with a vengeance. This is the first house we've had that I didn't have to share my crafting/sewing room with our spare bedroom. It's an area all my own - so I'm rather surprised I haven't decided to decorate it until now.

I finished all the painting, and I'm pleased with the results. I'm loving the turquoise, Tiffany blue color that I've been seeing everywhere. I did one of my spare rooms in this color, and I carried it over to my craft room along with a softer yellow than what I used in the spare bedroom. I tried stenciling for the first time, and I love how it turned out.

Stenciling is really easy to do. You simply put your stencil where you want to start and mark the guides that are built in to the stencil. I used three colors for my stencil. I used a neutral beige color, and two aquas to give it depth and blend the theme of the room into the stencils. My base for the stencil was the beige. I took a small 4" cabinet roller and rolled it in the paint. Then, I rolled onto a brown paper bag a few times to remove the excess paint, then I rolled onto the stencil. I then took my stencil paint brush and dipped it lightly into one of the turquoise/aqua colors and stamped all over the stencil in various patterns and pressures. I then did the other color. Then I blended all three colors and voila, it was done. I like the way it turned out. As I went along, I would check my straight line with a level - and I found that as long as I lined up the guides that I marked, it stayed perfectly straight.

When I first put up my pegboard, I had the bright idea to mod podge wrapping paper on it to keep it fun and fresh. I really didn't like how it turned out, and after a while, the paper started to come off. This time, I just turned it over and painted it yellow. I'm really pleased with how this has turned out.

My next area to tackle is my sewing area. I have painted and did the 3M Command hooks so that if I ever want to remove them I can without damaging the walls. I'm hoping to head to Ikea in the next day or two and getting the bars, S hooks, and other wall storage supplies to put along the wall next to the peg board. I also want to put up shelves where I have some plastic shelves set up. I'd rather have hanging shelves, and it'll be better for me to store my fabrics, patterns, etc.

It's a work in progress, and my hope my next blog will be a full on tour of my entire craft room.

Congratulations to EveLynn Clawson for being the winner of the travel/cruise getaway bag!!
