I really needed something to put on one side of our fireplace to hide the chords hanging down from our greenery on the mantle. I searched high and low, and found the perfect items. The first one I found at Lowe's and cost roughly $65. Then I found two at Home Goods for $99 and $120 respectively. I didn't want to spend that kind of money on something so basic, so I decided I'd do it myself. In the end, I paid $60.00 for BOTH burlap bag Christmas "sculptures". I've included links for Amazon where appropriate, but you can get most of the stuff at Hobby Lobby.
1. I took my four pieces of burlap, and sewed them together making sure that I alternated each size.
2. I put together my box leaving the top open.
3. I stuffed the inside of the box with paper, packing it pretty tight. Then I glued in the floral styrofoam about an inch and a half from the top.
4. Then I added my filler of wired evergreen/garland. I had a few berry twigs I put in as well as pine cones, and silk/glittered poinsettia flowers. I just added until it looked nice to me. Earlier in November, we had purchased some metal yard art from kids at MD Anderson Cancer Center. I decided to incorporate those items instead of just putting the metal art outside in the yard. I thought it made a nice touch.
5. Finally, I found a couple Christmas quotes on my cricut design space, and I printed them onto the iron on vinyl with my cricut machine. Remember to switch your setting to iron on. I ironed on the saying onto the the burlap then I put the burlap cover over the box. Since, I didn't make it perfect, I was able to fold the top down inside the box and hot glue it. Here's what the finished product looks like.
